Day 7 - Siesta Key Beach

This was our second time at this beach. It was recommended by a former manager of mine and we spent a day here last year. It's a beautiful white sand beach on the gulf coast. The beach is free and parking is free. The water is clear and warm and the sand isn't too hot. We stayed about 30 minutes away so we were here fairly early. We set up on the sand and headed in to the water. There were fish swimming around our feet as we played in the waves. The girls always take a few minutes to get used to the waves, but they were soon enjoying themselves. You could walk out pretty far before the water started getting deep.
After spending the morning at the beach, which I think will become a habit for our Florida trips, we dried off and headed into town. There are a lot of local restaurants and bars around here. We ended up at an ice cream shop that we stopped at last year as well. Sub Zero. It's a place where they make the ice cream right in front of you using liquid nitrogen. You get to choose flavors, mix-ins and type of ice cream (regular, custard, frozen yogert, almond milk, sugar-free, etc.). This one also has Dr. Who themed specials, which were there last year as well.
This was probably our shortest day overall. We left Siesta Key a little while after we had ice cream and headed back towards Orlando. My parent's flight was due to come in and we were spending out last night at a regular hotel before heading to the resort. Finally, the same bad for a whole week. Up to this point it was a different hotel every night. It worked out as we never had to travel far, but it would be nice to finally have a home base for a little while.
My parent's flight was really late, due to some storms up in the Philly area. They spent hours on the tarmac waiting to take off. Meanwhile we had checked into the Calypso Cay hotel and resort. They were fairly rude at the front desk and didn't seem happy that we were only staying one night. They even made a comment on how our rate was too low. All we did was go online and book it. If they want a higher rate, post a higher rate. For a resort, I was thoroughly unimpressed. Another reason to look forward to our resort.
No pics for today. I didn't bring the camera down to the beach and there wasn't anything else that caught my attention enough that day to have me take a picture.
